What we treat

Sensory processing. Our building was made for it.

Sensory awareness shapes our facility before it shapes our care plans. Low-stim rooms by default, the whole space lit by circadian lighting that dims and shifts to mirror the daylight outside, a dedicated sensory gym, and an outdoor nature space the children help tend. OT-led sensory integration inside a multidisciplinary day program. For children ages 5–12 in Palm Beach Gardens, FL.

01 · The environment regulates first

Sensory awareness shapes the building, not just the plan.

The NorthStar Day building, specifically designed by our OT team, incorporates spaces that promote baseline regulation, naturally encouraging calm and predictable transitions. An outdoor nature space the children help tend. A sensory gym built for the work.

That matters because sensory processing differences aren't something a child manages in spite of the environment. They're something the environment either supports or aggravates. The environment regulates before we ask the child to.

02 · The clinical work

What sensory work looks like.

Inside the daily program, sensory work looks like:

  • Occupational therapy in a dedicated, equipped sensory gym: swings, crash pads, climbing, weighted equipment
  • Sensory integration intervention pulled into every part of the day, not isolated to the OT block
  • Regulation work targeting the nervous-system layer underneath the sensory presentation
  • Parent coaching in sensory diets and home accommodations that hold up between visits
  • School coordination with your permission, including sensory-aware classroom recommendations

03 · The whole picture

Sensory differences may sit underneath the surface.

Sensory processing differences frequently sit underneath what looks like something else: anxiety, behavioral dysregulation, attention difficulty, social withdrawal, sleep disruption, or feeding challenges. The sensory layer is easy to miss when the surface presentation is what everyone is looking at.

Our team holds both layers. The OT, the therapist, the SLP, and the psychiatrist when relevant are all in the same weekly meeting, looking at how sensory load is shaping the rest of the picture.

04 · How to decide

Where to start.

NorthStar Day is for children whose sensory profile is actively interfering with participation. When a child spends the school day managing input, there is no capacity left for instruction, peer interaction, or self-regulation, and the same patterns may repeat at home.
